Feedback of Microteaching 

1)  Why you chose the task.

       In my learning experience of senior , my teacher has always reminded us if you learn a new vocabulary, you have to memorize its family words and make a sentence to realize how to” use a word”. When I major in English in Hua Fan University, our professor also said the same words as my teacher in senior high school. If you know how to use a vocabulary well, you will get better than other people who do not know the technique of learning English.

Actually, I did not take care what they said until I decide to study hard. I think it is one of good methods of learning vocabulary. Sometimes when I learn a new word which is hard to memorize because I do not understand how to use it, I look for the dictionary not only force myself to memorize its Chinese meaning but read a sentence in it. How to make a sentence and put a right preposition in it ? Both of these are very important. Because of all the reasons, I chose the task.

And, most important of all, I learn many techniques from
Alice’s PPT. Alice’s PPT inspires me that how to use it meaningful in teaching with technology. I wish I would help my students learning English with an active atmosphere”.   

2)  How you implemented it, including obstacles and supports

     At first, I’ve never done like these. Limited time makes me feel nervous. I think it is difficult to show something meaningful in teaching. Because the lesson I chose which is about” drama”. I thought maybe that can help students to know the words about a play. I collected all of the words. I wrote the meaning beside each vocabulary. But I found it that the task I prepare was spent too much time. So, I gave it up. Finally, I chose the vocabulary of the lesson. As what I’ve said, vocabulary using is very important. I hope I can do a simple, short (actually I’ve been over time in teaching) and meaningful teaching.     During the 15mins, first, I told the students what I am going to introduce today and show the picture before tell what the vocabulary. Because I find that can make fun for the students and I know if I need the students pay attention to the courses in class, I have to use the attracted pictures to catch their eyes. Not only let the students know the word, but realize “how to use it? “.

I think to “organize a teaching procedure” is very difficult, but, if the teacher can really analysis the lesson for students. I think teacher and the students all can get benefits during teaching and learning.

3)      How your participants reacted to the activity.

Advantages Disadvantages

First, I appreciate that they gave so much suggestions in my activity; I find that almost the participants’ responses are same. Also, I think all of them reflect that my attributes and shortcomings. I think I have to prepare very well that I won’t be nervous. The pictures I did not choose very well, I also need to learn how to choose relative pictures to the words I am going to teach. Speaking is the other shortcoming that I have to improve. I will try my best to speak loudly and clearly without using microphone.

  

4)      What you feel you and your participants got out of it.

     First, I appreciate that all the participants like the PPT what I made. I also like what they have done and I think their PPTs are better than mine. All of the responses inspire me that technology in teaching is a tendency nowadays. The entire teachers have to know “how to teach with technology well”. Second, many of the participants reminded me that I have to choose a connective picture with the word. Although many of them chose “reading” for their task in the “TEACHING SHOW”, I still learn many different techniques at the same theme. Finally, I feel I got a plentiful harvest in these teaching activities and my participants they have a chance of criticism training. All of us have learned how to teach and how to make a feedback for a task. We learned to take someone’s reply no matter it is a support or criticism.

First, I appreciate that group made so much fun in their  prespetation and I agree with they’ve told that good wirting skill with a great deal in reading. But, initiial writing learners need to know the structure of an essay. And I think when the students learn a good structure in writing, they will learn it as possible as they cen. 

Also, in their work, I’ve learned something from Hyde. His teaching activity inspired me to ” enjoy teaching” with confidence. I lack it and I hope to help myself to absorb some. When I saw these groups on the stage, I really appreciared all of them because in their works I got  so much illumination from them. I do not prepare well in teaching……………

I love the article” General MAcArthur’s Prayer For His Son” , it touched my heart since I was a junior high school student. I appreciate Group 6 they choose the article for a model of teaching reading. If I am a high school student, I will pay attention to the class with my favorite article. And, for all of the groups I find out that every group always divides students  into several groups with a ” competition”.

Sometimes I do not know why should I have to do this job, because teacher always ” count” each group of the students when they  raise her/ his hand to answer a question. I am confused with that. Beacuse if I am student,  sometimes I feel bored in the ” competition”.

Finally, I find out that why should we do that in our teaching activity. ” Count”is not the point for the students. Teachers arouse the students who can learn something from the teaching activity is the most important thing. So, a good motivation activity is very important not only for the students but for the teachers who can do their best in conveying  knowledge.

However, is it the only way for teachers make a motivation in” competition” .  Many approach we still have to learn.

First,  by watching their group teaching work, I always get a lot of benefit from each group.  For the two groups  of teaching  speaking, two different in teaching speaking and  help me to realize how to teach Speaking. Writing and reading are two of  the important targets of the system of examination in Taiwan until “Revolution of Education” for several years . Lastly,teacher in Taiwan pay attention to teach speaking better than before. As a matter of fact, students also need to get a big examination when they want to study in superior high school or university. They still have to face the music. How can the teachers do?

 Just do it!.

  

I was so excited that had the first visit of teaching model in Lishan high school. I have heard about the school but I do not where it sets. I was in group B and our group were going to visit 賴佩玲老師and 陳映廷老師. When I went to the classroom, there is a similar scene appearing before my eyes. I just fell into the memory of my high school period. Because of the reason, I understood what was going to” happen” in class.In 佩玲老師’s class, the process of the model is following:

1.      recall

2.      vocabulary teaching( use a picture of baseball scoreboard)

3.      a oral practice of the students

4.      Listening practice of the students—the teacher read a short article and the students have to pay attention to what the teacher said.

5.       grammar using

6.       PC English       

 First, I’d like to appreciate teacher 佩玲 spent time to showed us a model before their mid-exam, her teaching process it quite logic and she tried to let all the students do their best to learn English. I saw several students in the back of the classroom were trying their best to join the activities. That touched my heart because they seem not like to study English but they still be a “model” to us. Second, in the course, the teacher showed us that pronunciation is very important to help realize what and how to use a sentence and vocabulary using and also showed the students a very important connotation—English provocation is not only helpful in learning, but language is a tool in communicating with others.  

We got a different view from 映廷老師.She used power point with pictures and grammar to help the students study English. They are 11th grades students. They were learning the mythology stories; it’s amazing that the students they were studying English literature. At first, I doubt”what the students can learn from it? It is very difficult.” But teacher 映廷’ flexible teaching skill and clear explanation let the students absorbed in the course. I think that is another way in teaching skill. She is also a good stories teller. Not only tell the students a story, she also explains the sources of several vocabularies, and I find out that is another way in helping them to learn vocabulary using and realize the background of the vocabulary. Every vocabulary has a story. English learning is not jus t making students to be the test-takers, but help them knowing the history and expand their views in connecting the world.       Two of the teachers use different in teaching English, but their modes of the teaching spply us a good mean– patience, logic and technological.

For this week, I saw the Group2’s teaching model, I appreciated their activity. The clear goal, loud voice, and a good atmosphere of interaction. All of these are good for me to learn. As I am a tutor, I help my student to learn the grammar by using his textbok, and his textbook is full of the grammar but he doesn’t know how to use them in making a sentence. By helping one student, I think I can do my best to him, but for teaching the whole students in class, Group2’s model really hleps me to know what I am going to do in the future.

       First, I would like to thank Alice and all of the classmates who gave  many worth suggestion for us. It is my first time to have this kind of teaching activity, because a tutor who has to pattention to the studet’s grades:P. When I was in the activity, acturally I’ve always thought that– Should I have to speak English all time? Because the target students we faced were 8th grades. In my experiences, almost the students they do not know how to use English to respond what the teacher asked.

      

       Which part did I like in our activities? I liked the Video part. I am so shy to have a speech in front of mny people, so the video part can ” help” me to decrease my pressure. And, I think that is a good tool to ” catch” the students’ eyes. Which part should I correct? My pronouncation and I have to prepare and focus on goal clearly.

      

  1. Setting clear goals and having a clear focus,
  2. Providing suitable teaching materials (handouts or worksheets when needed),
  3. Using teaching aides (including technological tools) wisely,
  4. Watching out teaching order and pace,
  5. Delivering your lesson with right body language, eye contact, voice volume, etc.,
  6. Designing different types of activities to avoid teacher-centered lessons, and
  7. Grouping your students efficiently.

All of these suggestion are very good to  me and I will learn to do my best in the final teaching activity.

  • Is teaching a craft or a science?
  • What areas of “scientific knowledge” do you think teachers of a foreign language ought to be familiar with?
  • A1: First, I think teaching is a craft. For me, I always think  that Laguage is a kind of tool for using.  If we can use it as a second language, we can use it as possible as we can. But science, it seems like another “level” of some people who study language.

    Or, using language as a tool but learning it scientially.

    A2: I think Grammar is a kind of scientific knowledge. Any langauge has it grammar to use. In Chinese, we also need to learn the grammar of writining.  Grammar learning is one of the important parts in Learning lanuage.
